SHE Celebrates National Homeownership Month!

Posted on July 1, 2022

National Homeownership Month is celebrated across America every June to highlight communities’ housing supply needs and the programs available to support potential homeowners.

On June 24th, Self-Help Enterprises hosted a Homeownership Month Celebration at the Valencia Heights Park in Woodlake, CA. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development, SHE celebrated with families participating in the construction of their own homes via the Mutual Self-Help Housing Program. Local homeowners and their families explored SHE’s resources available to best maintain their homes and finances.

“It’s well documented that the way to build wealth in this country is through homeownership,” remarked Tom Collishaw, President and CEO of Self-Help Enterprises. “We honor your commitment to providing stability for your family through homeownership, and your willingness to work hard to achieve it.”

SHE’s Mutual Self-Housing Program unites a group of eight to twelve families to help each other build their houses with skilled onsite supervision and guidance of SHE construction staff. SHE also assists each applicant with securing the loans needed to build their home. Special financing from the USDA and the State of California makes these homes affordable. “I know firsthand how important homeownership was for my mother and her children,” shared Maria Gallegos Herrera, USDA’s Rural Development State Director for California. “And we benefitted from a USDA loan which helped us to afford our first home, just like you.”

SHE offers multiple programs that continuously support rural communities and help families on their path to homeownership. Learn more
