2016 Annual Report

Posted on February 17, 2017

Self-Help Enterprises’ 2016 Annual Report features program accomplishments and activities throughout the year. Last year, significant milestones included:

  • Completion of the Highland Gardens Apartments in Visalia. Highland Gardens features 36 two- and three-bedroom apartments, a community center with a computer lab, solar carports, half-court basketball court, playground, and a community garden where residents can grow fruits and vegetables.
  • Launch of the Manufactured Housing program. The first manufactured home was installed in Chowchilla (Madera County). These prefabricated homes, which are all built to state code, replace stick-built and mobile homes that are in need of extensive repair and are no longer safe or healthy.
  • Groundbreaking of a self-help subdivision in Parksdale. A groundbreaking event celebrated ten families who began construction of their new, affordable homes in the newest phase of a subdivision in Parksdale (Madera County).
  • Connecting communities to permanent water sources. After living without clean, reliable water, residents in the Tulare County communities of Matheny Tract and East Porterville connected to permanent, sustainable sources of water.
  • Creating 219 new homeowners in Bakersfield. Families in Bakersfield became homeowners with the help of the Wells Fargo HomeLIFT program, a program administered by SelfHelp Enterprises, which provided eligible homebuyers with $15,000 down payment grants.
