Success Stories
Rate and Payment Reduction
A hearing-impaired woman was facing foreclosure of her first home in Strathmore. She was having difficulty communicating with her lender, and was unsure how to proceed, so she contacted Self-Help Enterprises. One of our foreclosure counselors called the lender and got the interest rate on the loan reduced from 11.25% to 5.25% and got it fixed at that rate for the life of the loan. The interest rate reduction dropped the payment from $876 per month to $564 per month, allowing her to keep her home. As a bonus, she was able to continue with her homeless dog-rescue operation and she did not have to abandon her dreams of finding the dogs good homes. Had SHE not intervened, both the client and the dogs would have been homeless.
Military Family Saves Home
As families across the country prepared to celebrate Fourth of July, a military family prepared to lose their home. Luckily, through a referral from the national HOPE hotline (888-995-HOPE), a SHE Foreclosure Counselor was able to help the family save their home. The husband was recently deployed in Iraq, and the family had an unaffordable, adjustable-rate mortgage which would have left them homeless. The Foreclosure Counselor worked with the family to have the lender reduce the family's loan to a 6% fixed rate, over 30 years, thereby reducing the payments and saving the family's home from foreclosure.
