Housing Rehabilitation
Working with community leaders to identify housing in need of major rehabilitation is critical to the preservation and improvement of existing housing stock.
Because a large portion of the affordable housing available to low-income people in the Valley are older homes, SHE operates a rehabilitation program to preserve and improve the existing stock of housing. The two components of the program are emergency repair and housing rehabilitation. SHE also adapts housing to accommodate the special needs of the handicapped and elderly under this program.
An important element of the housing rehabilitation effort is a cooperative working relationship with valley cities and counties. Staff work with local community leaders to identify housing needs, to access Federal, State, and local financial resources such as Community Development Block Grants, and to implement housing rehabilitation efforts for residents of the community.
SHE matches limited resources to low-income family needs through its housing rehabilitation activities. This is accomplished through teamwork - working with residents, local government, and elected representatives to identify needs, find funding sources, and compete for financial resources.
