Changes in housing programs and ideologies have been many since the inception of the organization. Yet the housing needs of families are relentless, and for this reason SHE has remained steadfast in its mission and the fundamental belief that people want to participate in the solutions to their problems.

Formed in 1965, SHE has over 43 years of experience in providing service to its multi-county rural service area. From its humble beginnings, SHE has grown into an organization that serves thousands of low-income families in eight counties of the San Joaquin Valley and has served as the model for similar organizations around the world. SHE has been blessed with success, thanks to the strength of its mission, the consistent leadership of its board of directors, the continued dedication of its staff and volunteers, and support of its many contributors.
